New Ware 1:72 A400M Atlas/Grizzly PROPELLER BLADES is a set of masking templates in kabuki tape intended for spraying the propeller blades on a model of the transport aircraft in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A specialized accessory for building a model of the Airbus A400M in 1:72 scale. Instead of masking the whole of the glazing, this set deals with a single but laborious area: spraying the propeller blades. The templates are in thin kabuki tape; they are stuck onto a blade, sprayed over and taken off once the paint has dried.
The A400M has an eight-blade propeller on each engine, so a model carries a large number of blades and each of them needs an identically executed color transition. With tape cut by hand this is a slow job and the result tends to differ from blade to blade; an uneven width or a shifted position of the transition is seen at once on a finished model, because the blades stand side by side. A pre-cut template makes sure that all the blades are the same.
The blade is narrow, twisted and rounded in section, so lay the tape down from the middle toward the edges and press the edge down gradually with a toothpick, so that it does not stand proud anywhere. It is practical to spray the blades before gluing them into the propeller hub and before fitting them to the model; they can then be held by the root or stuck into polystyrene. Spray thinly and in several coats; one thick coat creates a ridge at the edge. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has become tacky, slowly and at a sharp angle. The remaining offcuts of the sheet come in useful for masking small things elsewhere on the model.
The set is an accessory for building a model. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
