The subject

Recognition markings on the sides, roof and nose of a vehicle serve for quick identification of one's own equipment at a distance and from the air. They are applied in the field, often hastily and without regard for the factory graphics, so they tend to be bold and simple. The sheet in 1:35 scale covers the markings used on the equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the years 2022 and 2023.

Field of use

On models of present-day tracked and wheeled vehicles alike, from combat equipment to supply trucks. Markings are placed so as to be legible from the side and from above, so count on the surfaces on the roof, on the turret or on the hood as well, which on a finished model are often empty. Compare the placement with a photograph of the particular vehicle, as the markings were not applied according to a uniform rule and differ from one example to the next.

How to apply the decals

Cut the motif off as closely as possible and coat the area under it with a gloss varnish. Soak it in lukewarm water and, once it comes loose, slip the decal off the backing into place and fine-tune it with a damp brush. On riveted seams, loops and armor plates use a decal softener, so that the film follows the relief instead of staying stretched over it. Once dry, overspray with a matte varnish and dust the markings lightly, so that they look as old as the rest of the vehicle.
