A gift set from Revell with a plastic kit of the German Type VII C submarine in 1:144 scale, released for the 40th anniversary of the cult film Das Boot. The real subject is the submarine U-96. Besides the kit itself the set contains basic paints, glue, a brush and decals, so you can build it straight out of the box, as it were. Thanks to the scale the finished model is impressively long and suits a shelf as well as a display case.
Type VII C submarines formed the backbone of the German submarine fleet in the Second World War and were deployed above all in the Battle of the Atlantic. They were medium ocean-going submarines with good range, torpedo armament and a deck gun. The 1981 film Das Boot portrayed the harsh life of the crew of one of them and became a legend of its genre.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife and join them with the supplied glue. Fit the hull halves carefully so that the seams are imperceptible. Apply the supplied paints in thin layers; for a faithful look it helps to bring out the rivets and the hatches with a wash and to add faint traces of rust and sea salt on the hull. Take care to seat the model level on its stand.
Besides the kit, the gift set also contains basic paints, glue and a brush. For the best result we recommend adding your own modeling equipment.
