A medium dark matte gray to the federal standard FS 36270, the upper tone of the low-visibility schemes of modern aircraft. A 10 ml pack.
Responsibility details are not available.
The shade FS 36270 lies roughly halfway between the dark 36118 and the light 36375. It is a matte gray with a slightly cool cast that the US Air Force has used since the 1980s as the upper tone of low-visibility camouflage. The difference from the neighboring grays is clear in a direct comparison, but in a photograph it depends on the lighting, which is why shades are most reliably judged on sprayed samples laid side by side.
It is carried by the upper fuselage and wings of F-16 fighters in their later low-visibility finishes, the spines of F-15E machines, parts of the schemes of the F-22 and a number of unmanned aircraft. Paired with the darker 36118 it forms the lighter field, while together with the light 36375 it is the darker one instead, so one bottle can manage both roles depending on what you pair it with. It is also useful on modern ground vehicles, on containers and on accessories, where a neutral medium dark tone without a color shift is needed.
The basis is an airbrush and thinning with the organic thinner from the same range, either the ordinary or the self-leveling one. The ratio of paint to thinner is chosen between 1:1 and 2:1 according to how thickly the paint runs out of the bottle. Let the individual coats set briefly, otherwise the surface ripples and under the pressure of the air small ridges form at the edges of the masking. Low-visibility schemes are made up of several close shades, so it is sensible to spray a test area on an old part and check the contrast before you start on the model. The volume of the bottle is 10 ml.
