The AR-15, M16 and M4 family grows out of a single design that since the 1960s has branched into dozens of configurations differing in barrel length, stock, sight arrangement and fittings for mounting accessories. The designation A3 belongs to the later configurations of the M16 line. That is precisely why the whole family is a rewarding subject for collectors: the individual models side by side show how the same weapon changed over time.
A model of the rifle in 1:3 scale, that is, at roughly a third of the size of the real weapon. That is an unusually large format for a modeling product and it changes the way you work: the parts sit well in the hand, the surface is right under your eye, and the build is closer to working on a mock-up than to assembling a small model. The parts count, the extent of the moving parts and the contents of the box are given in the instructions enclosed in the box.
In a large scale the surface forgives far less than in a small one, so give the joints time: let the glued parts cure properly, fill the seam and sand it through several grits until it is smooth. Look at the sanded area against the light after the base coat has been sprayed, as scratches only come out there. Apply thin coats; on a large surface a heavy build-up shows immediately. Set the metal parts apart from the synthetic ones by the degree of sheen rather than by shade, as both tend to be dark. Suggest wear sparingly on the edges a hand really touches, that is, on the grips, around the trigger and on the edges of the receiver.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue and a display base are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
