This is a color 3D-printed interior for the pilot's cockpit of the Douglas SBD-2 Dauntless carrier dive bomber in 1:32 scale. It is a color three-dimensional interior printed on a decal backing paper. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory that replaces the flat or simplified cockpit elements from the base kit. The set is centered on the pilot's cockpit and faithfully captures the instrument panel, the side consoles and other visible elements. The target kit is the Trumpeter one.
The Douglas SBD Dauntless was an American carrier dive bomber of the Second World War. The early SBD-2 version served with the US Navy and Marine Corps at the start of the war in the Pacific, for example in the fighting in the Coral Sea. The Dauntless became famous for its accuracy in dive bombing and for its toughness.
Paint the surfaces under the parts and polish them with a gloss varnish (Future, Klear, Tamiya X-22) – the parts have no adhesive layer of their own and a matte surface is a mistake. The parts are cut out, dipped in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the backing paper into place in the cockpit; on a broken surface a drop of super glue helps. Do not use a decal softener or setter, as their chemistry attacks the printed resin and destroys the part. Painting the instruments is usually not needed, as the panel is already realistically printed, and a final matte varnish evens out the surface.
This is an add-on decal set, not a standalone model. The base Trumpeter kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
