A decal sheet by Xtradecal prepared for models of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc. The large scale forgives mistakes less than smaller models do, so good markings show on such a build straight away.
The Nine came about as a quick answer to the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190, which from 1941 had the better of the Spitfire Mk.V. The solution was to fit a practically unchanged airframe with a Merlin with a two-stage two-speed supercharger, which gave the British squadrons back their advantage at altitude. The letter in the designation describes the armament layout: the so-called universal type c wing allowed cannon and machine guns to be combined as a unit needed. The Mk.IX became the most numerous fighter version of the Spitfire and flew on every European battlefield and with the foreign squadrons of the Royal Air Force.
In a larger scale the decals are big and fold easily when they are moved. It helps to slide them under the design with wide tweezers or a brush and to work on a damp surface. Once dry, they can be pressed into the engraved lines with a decal softener so that the film follows the surface and does not stay stretched over the panel groove.
The package holds the decals alone. The Spitfire model, paints and varnishes do not belong to it.
