About product

American Bantam Reconnaissance Car - a plastic kit from Asuka, 1:24 scale

An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Bantam (BRC) light reconnaissance car in the large and rewarding 1:24 scale from the Japanese maker Asuka, formerly known under the Tasca brand. The large scale allows rich detail on the engine, the chassis and the interior. The package also contains rubber parts and a decal sheet. The exact number of parts and the particular schemes are stated in the instructions in the box.

The real subject

The American Bantam Reconnaissance Car was one of the direct predecessors of the legendary Jeep. In 1940 the US Army issued a requirement for a light all-wheel drive off-road vehicle, and the American Bantam company submitted one of the first working prototypes. Although larger makers eventually took over series production on a big scale, it was the Bantam that stood at the birth of the whole category of light military off-road vehicles that became a symbol of Allied mobility in the Second World War.

Building and painting tips

The large scale rewards careful work with detail. Finish and paint the engine and the chassis separately before seating them in the frame. Apply the base olive green with an airbrush over a primer, then bring out the edges with a dry brush. A wash in the recesses and dust pigments on the chassis and the tires will give the vehicle a faithful, service-worn look. Degrease the rubber tires before painting.

Who the model is for

  • For lovers of Allied automotive equipment of the Second World War
  • For modelers who will appreciate the large 1:24 scale and rich detail
  • For collectors of the predecessors and relatives of the famous Jeep
  • For builders of smaller vignettes and scenes with stationary equipment

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not, but it is one of its direct predecessors. In 1940 Bantam submitted one of the first prototypes from which the whole category of light military off-road vehicles developed.

The model is markedly larger than in the common 1:35 scale, which allows a more detailed engine, chassis and interior. The finished vehicle is a striking piece for a display case.
