The beachhead that did not move

The landing on the Italian coast in January 1944 was meant to go around the German defensive line and open the way to Rome. Instead of a rapid breakthrough a confined beachhead arose, where every village and every farmstead was fought over for months. Assault guns were among the most numerous armored equipment the Germans deployed there, and their maintenance went on between the houses, often under the watch of aircraft.

How to approach the whole scene

Prepare the paving first, so that you have something to try the shades of dust on. Paint the vehicle and the figures separately and seat them only at the end. With the mechanics it pays off to dirty the hands and the overalls more than the uniform of the officer, because it is precisely that difference that gives the scene its credibility.
