A turned metal barrel of the German 88 mm KwK 36 tank gun with a length of 56 calibers is a detail accessory for a model of the heavy tank Tiger I in the Ausf. E version in 1:35 scale. This is not a kit but a replacement part, used in place of the plastic barrel of the base model. This variant carries the early muzzle brake, typical of vehicles from the beginning of production. The metal form means a straight axis, no parting line and a precisely rendered bore at the muzzle, that is, exactly what draws the most attention on the dominant feature of a Tiger model.
The Tiger I, also designated the Pz.Kpfw. VI Ausf. E, was a German heavy tank committed from 1942. Its main weapon was the 88 mm KwK 36 gun derived from the famous anti-aircraft gun, which in penetrating power and accuracy was among the most effective tank weapons of its day. The muzzle brake went through a change of shape during production; early pieces had a different form from later vehicles, and it is precisely this detail, together with other features, that helps in identifying a particular production block.
Cut off the plastic barrel as close to the mantlet as possible, level the surface and seat the metal part true to the axis. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy. Before painting, degrease the surface and lay on a base coat for metals, or the paint will peel at every touch. The barrel of a Tiger is worth shading off from the rest of the vehicle, with the front part lightly scorched with a dark pigment and the worn edges of the muzzle brake picked out.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
