Four ready-made concrete barriers in 1:35 scale. A diorama accessory that only needs painting and setting into the scene of a military checkpoint.
Responsibility details are not available.
The portable concrete barrier established itself because it can do two things at once. A vehicle that hits it at an angle rides up its sloping foot and returns to the lane instead of rolling over. And because the block is not anchored anywhere, it can be moved by crane within a moment.
Military use came straight after. Around checkpoints, in front of the entrances to bases and across streets in occupied towns these blocks form an interrupted line a driver has to pass through slowly and in a zigzag. That is exactly why they appear in scenes from the Balkans, from Iraq, from Afghanistan and in civilian settings from detours to building sites.
The package holds four pieces worked up in the same scale in which most models of ground equipment are built. The parts arrive finished, so any assembly is dispensed with.
Painting does the most work. Concrete is never uniformly gray: the lower part tends to be darker from splashing water, the edges worn into the light and the surfaces carry the remains of sprayed markings, numbers and paint knocked off by impacts. A light base, over it a thin layer of dark wash into the hollows and finally a dry brush on the sharp edges proves itself. Small chips can be suggested with the point of a scalpel.
In the finished scene the blocks work best in an irregular row with gaps, not as a continuous wall. Only then is it apparent from the scene where the traffic was meant to pass.
Paints and a base are not part of the delivery.
