An injection-molded plastic kit of the massive self-propelled gun in 1:35 scale from the Trumpeter company. The subject is a German project for a heavy self-propelled mounting on a chassis derived from the Tiger, carrying the heavy 21 cm Mörser 18 mortar (howitzer). The kit stands out with a detailed engine compartment and a precisely shaped lower tub; it contains photo-etched metal, vinyl tracks and metal springs.
The concept came about at the Krupp company as a heavy gun carrier for a 21 cm mortar or a 17 cm gun, using the powertrain, wheels and tracks of the Tiger. With a crew of around eight men the machine weighed roughly 60 tons and was to act as mobile heavy artillery able to fire at long range. Its thin armor matched its role in the second line, where firing from a safe distance was expected. Until the end of the war the project remained at the stage of an unfinished prototype, which the Allies found in 1945 near Paderborn.
Paint and weather the detailed engine compartment before you close the hull up, because after assembly there will be no access to it. Seat the vinyl tracks with natural sag around the return rollers and build in the metal springs according to the instructions. A primer, an airbrush and liquid cement for plastic are recommended; bond the photo-etched parts with super glue. Bring the extensive armor surfaces to life with tonal transitions, washes in the recesses and pigments for dust and mud on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
