Injection-molded plastic kit of the German light tank Pz.Kpfw. I Ausf. F, developed under the designation VK 18.01, in its early version. 1:35 scale, made by Hobby Boss. The same manufacturer also offers the late version of the same vehicle.
The Ausf. F shared little more than its name with earlier Pz.Kpfw. I versions. It was a completely new, far more heavily armored vehicle intended to accompany infantry when breaking through fortified positions. Its frontal armor reached eighty millimeters, more than that of contemporary medium tanks, but the armament remained just machine guns in a two-man turret. The running gear received interleaved road wheels and wide tracks. Only a few dozen were built, which appeared on the Eastern Front in 1942, with some also used for training. The combination of heavy armor and weak armament makes it one of the more unusual German designs of the period.
Assemble the interleaved road wheels in layers and let them dry before fitting the tracks, or the spacing will go out of alignment. Leave the turret removable until the end of painting. For 1942, German gray or dark yellow suits the base depending on the period of deployment; after the base coat, a dark wash and edge highlighting will bring out the panel breakdown. Concentrate mud effects on the tracks, the underside of the hull and the fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
