The first part of a numbered line of sheets with decals that transfer German uniform markings of the Second World War onto figures. It is not a figure or a kit — it is an accessory for modelers who already have their figures finished and want to mark them more convincingly than a brush allows. In 1:35 scale a soldier is around five centimeters tall, so the small badges on a collar, a sleeve or shoulder boards are very hard to paint by hand.

Use and tips

Uniform decals behave differently from the national insignia on an aircraft: the base is not a flat surface but rumpled cloth. So apply the design onto a finished, painted uniform that you have sealed beforehand with a gloss or satin coat — on matte paint a silvering veil forms around the decal. A softener then lets the decal settle into a fold, so it does not read as stuck-on paper. Once dry, unify the surface with a matte clear coat and, if needed, pick the folds out gently with a wash, so that the badge appears to lie on the cloth rather than above it.
