The real subject

The M1A2 SEP is the modernized configuration of the American Abrams main battle tank. It carries a 120 mm smoothbore gun and is powered by a gas turbine, thanks to which the heavy machine pulls away unusually quietly and quickly. The SEP designation refers to a package of improvements to the electronics, the sights and the crew equipment. The abbreviation TUSK then names a set of modifications for use in built-up areas, where the tank is at risk of being hit from the side, from rooftops and from behind. It includes add-on side armor, a shield for the loader's weapon and a phone at the rear through which the crew can talk to the accompanying infantry. The TUSK II configuration adds further add-on protection elements.

What the set contains

This is a plastic kit in 1:35 scale, supplied unassembled and unpainted. As the name says, it will build either the TUSK I or the TUSK II SEP configuration, but make the choice before the build, following the instructions, because the two configurations differ in the add-on protection parts.

Building and painting tips

Go through the instructions first and mark the parts that belong to only one of the variants, so that you do not mix them up by mistake. Keep the sub-assemblies with the add-on protection separate for painting, because neither a brush nor a nozzle will reach between the side armor and the hull. Once the decals are on, unify the surfaces with a varnish and only then add the dust and the traces of service.
