The real subject

The M4A3 was the version of the Sherman powered by a Ford gasoline engine, which the American army regarded as its standard at the end of the Second World War. The 76W form carried the more powerful 76 mm gun, which stood up better to German tanks, and wet stowage for the ammunition, which reduced the risk of fire if the tank was hit. Late machines on the classic VVSS suspension with wider tracks and a number of production changes served in the last months of the war and after it.

Building and painting tips

Fit and clean up the running gear and the individually linked tracks before you close the hull; the workable running gear allows the tracks to settle faithfully onto the ground. Fit the metal gun barrel only after the hull has been sprayed. Bond the thin photo-etched parts with super glue and the plastic with liquid cement; after filling, sand the joints and apply a primer. The base is an olive green finish; dark washes into the recesses will add depth, highlight the edges with a dry brush and dust the underside and the running gear with dust and mud pigments.
