This kit in 1:35 scale captures the German heavy armored car Sd.Kfz.233 - the eight-wheeled variant armed with a short gun of 7.5 cm caliber. It is released by the Taiwanese brand AFV Club, which has long concentrated on the ground vehicles of the Second World War.
The family of heavy eight-wheeled cars built on the Büssing-NAG chassis was among the most mobile reconnaissance assets of the Wehrmacht. In place of a traversing turret, the 233 version was given an open superstructure with the short barrel that originally served as the gun armament of the first Panzer IVs. The aim was not duels with tanks but immediate fire support for reconnaissance patrols: breaking up a machine-gun nest, laying smoke over an area, silencing light fortifications. The cars took part in the fighting in North Africa and on the Eastern Front from about 1942.
On an eight-wheeler the running gear decides everything: seat and align all the suspension units and the steered axles before you start on the hull, or the car will not sit evenly on its base. The open fighting compartment is visible from outside, so the inside of the superstructure deserves proper shades and a dark wash in the corners. Build the dust and mud up from the bottom.
