1:35 T-34/85 No.112 Factory Production

T-34/85 (Factory No. 112) in 1:35 scale (Academy)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet T-34/85 medium tank in the form built by Factory No. 112, in 1:35 scale from Academy. The model captures that factory's characteristic turret with an 85 mm gun and offers link-and-length tracks, photo-etched parts and several marking options. Glue and paints are not included in the package.

The real subject

The T-34/85 was the ultimate development version of the legendary Soviet T-34 medium tank. The larger three-man turret with an 85 mm gun markedly raised the firepower and improved the work of the crew. The tank was built by several factories whose turrets differed in the details of the casting; the form built by Factory No. 112 in Nizhny Novgorod, historically known as Krasnoye Sormovo, has its own typical features in the shape of the casting and the layout of the fittings. The tank combined proven sloped armor, a reliable diesel engine and easy production. The T-34/85 served from 1944, contributed markedly to the Soviet advance on Berlin and after the war spread to dozens of armies, where in places it served for many more decades.

Building and painting tips

Build in subassemblies; finish and paint the running gear and the tracks before closing the hull. The cast surface of the turret comes out well once it has been lightly roughened and washes have been applied. Apply the base green with an airbrush and bring out the details with a dry brush and washes. Finally add dust and mud pigments on the running gear, which will give the tank realistic field weathering.
