An injection-molded plastic kit of the American T29E1 heavy tank in 1:35 scale from Hobby Boss. The model belongs to the line of postwar American heavy tanks, for which the manufacturer also lists other vehicles of the T29 and T34 programs.
The T29 program came about at the end of the Second World War as the American answer to the German heavy tanks and to the need for a means against fortifications. The vehicle received a long turret with a 105 mm gun, heavy armor and a crew of six, among them two loaders. Its weight passed sixty tons, so it was one of the heaviest American tanks of its day. The T29E1 version differed from the basic form in its powertrain, with which the postwar trials looked for the most suitable combination of engine and transmission. The program never reached series production, and only a few test vehicles were built, which served for trials on proving grounds.
The long barrel needs careful fitting so that it sits on the axis of the turret, and it is best fitted only after painting. Finish the running gear and the inner faces of the side plates before you close the hull. Postwar test machines were usually in a uniform olive, which sprays well with an airbrush and can then be brought alive with modulation of the shade. Concentrate dust and light wear on the fenders and the running gear; heavy battle damage does not belong here.
