Responsibility details are not available.
Injection-molded plastic kit of an American heavy cruiser in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter. The year 1945 in the name denotes the state of the ship in that year, not the year she was launched. The distinction matters here: the same manufacturer also offers a variant with the 1944 state, and the two forms of the ship differ from one another.
USS Indianapolis was a Portland class heavy cruiser that entered service in 1932. During the war she served for a long time as a flagship and took part in practically every major operation in the Pacific. In the spring of 1945 a kamikaze hit her off Okinawa and the ship had to go in for repair. Shortly afterwards she carried components of the first atomic bomb to the island of Tinian. On the return voyage, on 30 July 1945, a Japanese submarine torpedoed her. The ship sank within a few minutes and the rescue of the survivors was delayed, which made her end one of the most tragic events in the history of the US Navy.
Go through the instructions first and divide the build into the hull, the deck and the superstructures, which are more practical to paint separately. Sand the hull joints smooth before the base coat. A late-war state means a great many small gun barrels and platforms, so fit them at the end. The gray surfaces come alive with a dark wash running into the engraved lines and with gentle lightening of the horizontal areas. If you plan to set the model into a water surface, decide before you start gluing the lower part of the hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
