About product

Photo-etched depth charges IJN 1:350 (Flyhawk)

This photo-etched set from the maker Flyhawk is intended for detailing the antisubmarine armament of warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy. It is not a kit of a ship but a set of fine photo-etched parts that replace or supplement the coarse plastic components connected with the depth charges.

What the set is for

Japanese destroyers and escort ships carried depth charges at the stern, stowed in racks and released down rails or thrown out to the sides. The photo-etched set makes it possible to render these stowage rails and supporting structures more faithfully, as in 1:350 scale they are very small and in plastic necessarily simplified.

Usage tips

Bend the small parts in a photo-etch bender, separate them with a sharp knife and glue them with thin super glue. Tweezers and magnification help. The cylinders of the charges themselves can be kept in plastic and the frames and rails added in photo-etch.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of Japanese destroyers and escort ships in 1:350
  • Modelers aiming at fine detail on the armament
  • More experienced builders with experience of photo-etch
  • Collectors with demands for exhibition quality

The photo-etched accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.
