A photo-etched set of interplane bracing for a model of the de Havilland Rapide biplane in 1:48 scale. It replaces stretched filament with flat photo-etched parts of exact shape.
Responsibility details are not available.
The de Havilland DH.89 Dragon Rapide was a British twin-engine transport biplane of the 1930s. The fuselage and the flying surfaces had a wooden structure covered with fabric, the landing gear stayed fixed and the power came from a pair of air-cooled inline engines mounted on the lower wing. Between the wings there was the characteristic system of struts and bracing wires, which on a model makes up a substantial part of the overall impression.
The set is etched from thin metal sheet and brings the parts for bracing the interplane structure of a model in 1:48 scale. The flat etched braces keep a constant width and shape over their whole length, so unlike stretched filament they do not sag and they hold their position even after years in a display case.
Cut the parts off the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface, never break them out. Sand the remaining tab down with a fine file or a sanding sponge. Degrease the metal before gluing and let it dry; it is bonded with super glue. Apply the paint in a thin coat so that the fine etched detail does not disappear. Fit them only once both wings have been assembled and painted, when their relative position is clear.
The set suits a modeler who is building a biplane and does not want to take on stretching filament. Working with photo-etch calls for a sharp blade, tweezers and patience, but the result is considerably more durable.
The package contains only the photo-etched set. The aircraft kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
