The F-35A Lightning II is a single-engine multirole fifth-generation combat aircraft with a reduced radar signature. The letter A marks the land-based version with conventional takeoff and landing, that is, the most widespread rendering of the whole family; it is the only one of the versions with a cannon built into the airframe. The shaping of the aircraft is subordinated to low observability, so it carries its armament above all in internal weapon bays and its surface has few protrusions.
The set is intended for an F-35A model in 1:48 scale and serves to replace or complete the parts of a kit with a finer rendering. Its extent and the kit it is matched to are specified in the manufacturer's instructions. Plan the order of work accordingly, because some of the accessories are fitted before the fuselage is closed.
The parts are not polystyrene, so ordinary cement for plastic will not join them; use super glue and test the joints dry in advance. Cut off excess material with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder carefully so that the fine detail is preserved. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint holds badly. The low-observable gray finishes of the F-35 are low in contrast, so subtle shading of the surfaces looks more natural on them than sharp accenting of the panel lines.
