A set of pre-cut painting masks for a model of the F-35B fighter in 1:48 scale. The masks are ready to be applied straight away, so there is no cutting of shapes out of tape by hand. They serve to cover the areas that are not to be sprayed, above all the cockpit glazing and its frame. The result is a crisp paint edge of a kind you will not normally reach by brushing or by masking freehand. The set does not contain a model or paints.
The F-35B is the variant of the Lightning II with the ability to take off in a short distance and land vertically. It has a lift fan behind the cockpit and a swiveling nozzle at the rear, so it also differs from the other members of the family in the shapes of the panels on the upper and lower sides of the fuselage. The canopy is a one-piece hinged unit with a prominent frame, which is one of the most conspicuous places on a model and at the same time the hardest to mask.
Lift the masks off the sheet with the point of a scalpel or with tweezers, not with your fingers. Degrease the surface before applying them, or the tape will not hold. Press the edges down thoroughly with a toothpick so that no paint runs under them. Spray thin coats; a thick coat breaks away when the mask comes off and tears the edge. Take the mask off while the paint is dry to the touch, not after days of hardening.
The set contains painting masks only. Paints and the model are not included in the package.
