This set from the Polish brand Master replaces the plastic armament parts on a model of the Fw 190 fighter of the A-7 and A-8 series in 1:48 scale. According to the maker's designation it holds the barrel tips of the MG 131 machine guns, the barrels of the MG 151 cannon together with their fairings and a Pitot tube. It is not an aircraft kit but a metal accessory for the build, set into a model already under construction.
The Fw 190 A series was a German single-engined fighter with a radial engine. On the A-7 and A-8 versions the fuselage armament was a pair of 13 mm MG 131 machine guns above the engine, backed up by 20 mm MG 151 cannon in the wing roots, whose barrels emerged from fairings on the leading edge. It is precisely this combination of muzzles of different diameters in a small area that makes the armament of the Fw 190 a rewarding place for metal parts.
Work in groups and always dry fit first. On the pair of MG 131 barrel tips above the engine, watch the symmetry, because any difference in how far they project is visible from above without a magnifier. Set the cannon fairings on the leading edge so that they line up with the wing profile, and level any step with fine abrasive paper only once the glue has dried. They are glued with super glue, and on larger parts epoxy gives more time for alignment. Before painting, degrease the metal with alcohol and use a primer meant for metals. A gun-bluing solution also gives a nice and quick result, darkening the brass toward steel without filling in the bore.
This is an accessory for building a model, not a kit in its own right. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
