1:48 J-7A Fighter is a plastic kit of the early Chinese version of the jet fighter derived from the MiG-21 type, in 1:48 scale from Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit captures the early version of the Chinese fighter J-7. It is a slender single-engine machine with a circular nose air intake and a delta wing, which in 1:48 scale makes a compact and straightforward model. It is made by Trumpeter.
The Chengdu J-7 is based on the Soviet MiG-21F-13, whose production China took over from documentation handed over before the two countries parted ways. The early form kept the characteristic features of its parent: the circular nose air intake with a movable center cone, a slender fuselage, a delta wing and a swept fin. Power came from a single jet engine with an afterburner, and the armament consisted of cannons complemented by short-range missiles. From this basis grew a long line of further Chinese versions that differed in equipment and in the shape of the air intake, and the type reached foreign users in large numbers as well.
The most sensitive point of the build is the nose with the air intake, where it pays to fill and sand the seam before you fit the cone. Finish the cockpit and the nose gear bay before you close the fuselage. With a tricycle landing gear, check the balance after gluing so that the model stands on its nose wheel. Natural metal and light gray surfaces need a smooth base, a primer and airbrush spraying; apply the decals on a gloss coat and even the whole out at the end with an overcoat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
