The Kamov Ka-50 is a Russian single-seat attack helicopter with a pair of coaxial contra-rotating rotors, known under the name Black Shark. The pilot sits in it alone, the cockpit is tight and a considerable part of it is visible through the extensive glazing, so a well worked-out interior pays off.
The set brings two things together. The first are colored interior elements printed on a 3D printer and carried on decal paper: the instrument panels, the side consoles and other parts of the cockpit have relief and are already painted complete with stencils. The second part are separate 3D-printed parts, that is solid three-dimensional additions to the cockpit that are glued into the model. This form captures the cockpit with black panels. Everything is shaped for the Ka-50 kits in 1:48 scale from Italeri.
The printed parts are held on print supports. Cut them off with a sharp blade a little way from the part, sand the remains down gently and wash the surfaces in lukewarm soapy water before painting, so that no print resin residue is left on them. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary cement for polystyrene has no effect on them. The colored elements have no adhesive layer of their own: cut the element out, dip it in lukewarm water for about 15 seconds and slide it off the paper onto a finished surface coated with gloss varnish, having sanded any molded relief of the instruments flat beforehand. On a broken-up spot, fix the element with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin. Finish the whole interior before the cockpit is closed.
The set is meant for modelers who want to take the Ka-50 cockpit to the level of real detail and will not settle for printing alone. It calls for more work than a set made up of printed elements only, but the result has more relief. The package holds only the interior elements and the printed parts. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
