A detail accessory from the Polish company MASTER: turned metal barrels of the three-barrel M197 rotary cannon of 20 mm caliber, complemented by photo-etched barrel clamps, in 1:48 scale. The cannon was used on the AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter. It is not a helicopter model but a replacement for the plastic parts of the nose gun turret.
The M197 is a lightened three-barrel version of the 20 mm rotary cannon, intended for light attack helicopters. From the outside it is characterized by the bundle of three slender barrels held together near the muzzle by a clamp. On injection-molded plastic this assembly is among the least legible places on the whole model - the barrels tend to be thicker than the scale would call for and the clamp merges with its surroundings.
The advantage of a turned set is that each of the three barrels has its own bore and all of them have the same diameter, so they can be fitted exactly parallel and with the same spacing. That is practically impossible with a one-piece plastic molding. Fit the photo-etched clamps dry first, check the spacing and only then fix the joint with a drop of thin cyanoacrylate glue; where you need more time to align the parts, reach for a slow-setting epoxy. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and use a primer for metal. Bend the photo-etched parts over a steel rule in advance, and never make the bend in your fingers.
This is an accessory for further refinement of the model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
