The cockpit fit-out of the French swept-wing fighter and reconnaissance machine. The printed panels with relief are cut to the plastic parts of the Italeri kit at a reduction of 1:48.

On this type the French design office turned away from its usual triangular wing and reached for a conventional swept surface with tail surfaces. The result was a machine with better take-off qualities and with room for a more powerful radar. The first flight took place in 1966. The letter C marks the fighter form for air defense, while the addition CR belongs to the reconnaissance version, which carried sensing equipment in the forward part of the fuselage.
The thin carrier layer is translucent to a degree, and so the shade of the plastic under it shows in the result. The cockpits of French aircraft of that generation tended to be in a dark gray to almost black tone, so sticking the print onto light gray plastic means a visible shift. The recommended procedure is simple: spray the tub in a shade close to the final tone, let it dry properly and only then fit the parts. With a panel measuring around twelve millimeters the difference is clearly visible even to the naked eye.
The whole cockpit fits, at this reduction, onto an area smaller than a postage stamp. Yet this is exactly where the eye of everyone who picks the model up goes, because the cockpit tends to be the only place where you can see inside the aircraft. It is therefore worth spending half an hour fitting the panels rather than two hours polishing the exterior paint. The finished interior can also be picked out with a faint dark touch in the corners, which adds depth without printing over the artwork.
