An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Mustang fighter aircraft in 1:48 scale from the brand Bronco Models. The package covers the P-51D and P-51K versions, which differed from one another only in details, so in building you will choose one of them according to the markings selected. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and the exact number of parts as well as the make-up of the decal sheet is given on the packaging of the kit.
The Mustang was among the highest-performing piston fighter aircraft of the Second World War. The decisive step was the replacement of the original engine with a supercharged Merlin V12, which gave the machine performance at great altitude as well. The P-51D version was given a bubble canopy with a view to the rear, a lowered rear fuselage decking and armament consisting of heavy machine guns in the wing. The P-51K version differed from it in a different propeller, which showed in the shape of the blades and of the spinner. Thanks to its great range the Mustang was used for escort on long routes.
Glue injection-molded plastic with a thin glue that is drawn into the seam by capillary action, holding the parts pressed together as you do so. The most work is usually given by the joint of the fuselage and the wing root, where it pays to sand down and re-engrave the lines that have been lost. The natural metal surface typical of this subject is demanding: it needs a perfectly smooth base, a black gloss undercoat and a metallic paint laid on in thin coats, ideally panel by panel in slightly differing shades. Metallic paint has a pigment that settles to the bottom, so mix it thoroughly, and lay it on only at the end, because it is difficult to mask and to overspray. A gloss varnish belongs under the decals.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
