The KM-1 ejection seat appeared in MiG-21 cockpits on the later versions, where it replaced an older arrangement in which the jettisoned canopy was meant to shield the pilot as he left the aircraft. The KM-1 is a conventional ejection seat with a headrest of its own and with the survival system stowed directly in the seat pan, so it has a different outline and a different make-up of detail from the older type. It is the seat that shows which version of the aircraft you are looking at.

Compared with the part from the kit they have crisper edges, a more legible surface and raised detail that is hard to achieve on a part from a two-half mold. Before buying, check on your kit whether the MiG-21 version you are modeling really carried the KM-1 seat, and dry-fit it in the cockpit tub.
The parts are not polystyrene, so glue them with super glue. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the rest down so that a flat seating face remains. Wash and degrease the seat before painting, or the paint may not adhere. Paint it outside the cockpit, while it can be reached from every side, and fine-tune the shadows in the recesses with a darker glaze. Glue it into the cockpit only once the interior is finished. The exact preparation procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The set suits modelers who build the MiG-21 with an open canopy and want the cockpit worked out in detail. Replacing the seat is simple and yet clearly tells on the result.
