The Airfix 1:48 Supermarine Spitfire F Mk.XVIII is an injection-molded plastic kit of the late version of the legendary British fighter powered by a Rolls-Royce Griffon engine.

This injection-molded plastic kit in the popular 1:48 scale from the British maker captures the late Griffon-engined version of the Spitfire. The package also contains an extra sprue with underwing armament, rockets and bombs, so the model can be built both in a clean fighter configuration and with external stores. It is a modern tooling with a fine engraved surface.
The Spitfire F Mk.XVIII was derived from the Griffon-engined Mk.XIV and brought a number of improvements: a strengthened wing, a greater fuel load and changes in the cockpit. Besides cannons and machine guns it could carry bombs or rockets. It no longer took part in the fighting of the Second World War, but it came into its own in postwar RAF service, among other places during the operations in Malaya. It was built in a fighter version and in a reconnaissance variant with a camera.
Finish and paint the cockpit interior and the engine unit before closing the fuselage. Use thin cement for plastic and fill and sand the joints if need be. Apply gloss varnish before the decals, and after the decals even the surface out with matte or semi-gloss varnish. An airbrush and a base coat of primer are ideal for spraying.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
