An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale. The label BIG SET at MiniArt means that the box holds more than the aircraft: you also get a base measuring 315x227 mm and a set of accessories — service and repair equipment and tools from which you can build a scene of the machine being serviced at a field airstrip. Photo-etched parts and decals for three markings are included as well. It is therefore a diorama package: you buy the subject and the setting at once. The aircraft represents the P-47D Bubbletop version — with the teardrop, fully glazed canopy.
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, nicknamed the Jug, was the largest and heaviest single-engine fighter of the Second World War. It was powered by an air-cooled turbocharged radial engine, thanks to which it was at home at great altitude. It became famous for its exceptional toughness — it came back with damage that another aircraft would not have survived — and in the second half of the war it became a feared destroyer of ground targets with bombs and rockets. The name Bubbletop refers to the late versions with a teardrop canopy and a cut-down fuselage spine, which finally gave the pilot a view to the rear; the earlier machines had a framed canopy and a high spine — the so-called razorback.
Bond the plastic with liquid cement for polystyrene and the photo-etched parts with super glue. Finish and paint the interior and all the internal spaces before you close the fuselage. Even the surface out with a primer and spray with an airbrush; lay a gloss coat under the decals and a matte coat over them at the end. On the accessories and the base it pays to work with washes and pigments — dust, mud, oil stains and traces of use turn a static model into a living scene. A natural metal finish, if you choose one, calls for a perfectly smooth base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
