An injection-molded plastic kit of the Royal Navy light cruiser HMS Penelope as she was in 1940, in 1:700 scale from Flyhawk. It is a finely shaped model with the delicate engraving of the decks and superstructure that is typical of this brand. From it you can build a collector cruiser suitable for a stand as well as for a waterline base.
HMS Penelope was an Arethusa-class light cruiser, a slender and fast vessel intended for escort and reconnaissance. In the Second World War she served above all in the Mediterranean, where she took part in operations from Malta and in protecting convoys. For the many hits whose traces covered her hull and superstructure she earned the nickname Pepperpot. The 1940 configuration corresponds to the early war period.
Separate the small parts with a sharp knife and clean them up, so that in the small scale they do not spoil the delicacy of the molding. Spray the hull and the decks with an airbrush in thin coats over a base primer. Bring out the panel lines and the details with a dark wash that runs into the recesses. On the waterline version, take care over a clean dividing line of the hull. Railings and fine photo-etched accessories lift the overall impression markedly.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
