A kit of the American aircraft carrier in the classic ship scale of 1:700 from the Chinese brand Meng, released in the premium line marked as Extreme Edition. What exactly this release adds over the standard box, that is whether it contains photo-etched parts, a wooden deck, a stand or further extras, is listed in the contents on the box. For large surface ships 1:700 is the standard scale, because even a sizeable carrier stays manageable in a display case.
An aircraft carrier is a floating air base: a continuous flight deck, a hangar below it, elevators between the levels, and on the starboard side the island superstructure with the bridge and masts for radars and signaling. Flight operations shape the layout of the ship more than the armament does, which is why on this type so much attention goes to deck markings, arrestor wires and the spotting of aircraft. The name Lexington was carried by an American aircraft carrier in more than one period and with a different shape of hull and superstructure. The shape of the hull and the point in time at which the kit captures the ship are specified on the box and in the instructions.
With ship models the flatness of the flight deck decides everything. Glue the hull and the deck on a flat board and secure the joints while the glue sets, so that the structure does not bow. It pays to paint in sections before the final assembly, because you will not reach the corners under the superstructure later. Deck markings can be done with decals or with masking; for thin lines masking is usually more reliable. If you add photo-etched railings and masts to the set, fit them last so that they are not bent during handling. Keep the weathering restrained: a mild emphasis of the panels, fine rust streaks around the hawse pipes and paint worn through where the work is done look truer than overall grime.
