The Boeing X-20 Dyna-Soar glider in 1:72 scale from AMP: a plastic kit of the American military spaceplane that never got into the air.
Responsibility details are not available.
A short-run injection-molded plastic kit of the kind typical of AMP: fine engraved detail, a breakdown of the parts dictated by a small run and a fit that will call for a dry test assembly. The extent of the package is not stated here, so count on the usual preparation, that is cleaning up the parting lines and fine-tuning the joints.
Dyna-Soar was an attempt by the US Air Force to build a piloted orbital glider which, once lofted by a rocket, would glide back to a runway on its own. The design with a sharp delta surface, canted end fins and skids instead of wheels counted on thermal protection of heat-resistant alloys and ceramics. Development was led by Boeing, ran from the late 1950s and in December 1963 was stopped before the first flight; by then the program had managed to train a group of pilots and to start building part of the airframe.
For a mold of this kind, liquid cement applied by capillary action suits well, and small gaps are fine-tuned with filler and fine abrasive paper. Lay down a filler primer before painting, which will reveal the irregularities before an opaque coat fixes them in place. A dark, metallic-leaning surface comes out best sprayed with an airbrush in several thin coats.
The package holds the kit without paints and glue; those are obtained separately, unless stated otherwise.
