Plastic kit of the twin-engine transport aircraft C-47 Skytrain in 1:72 scale. The span of the finished model is around forty centimeters.
Responsibility details are not available.
The C-47 Skytrain is the military version of the Douglas DC-3 transport aircraft. It is powered by two piston radial engines, the wing is all-metal and cantilever, and the landing gear is retractable with a tailwheel. Compared with the civil machine the C-47 received a strengthened floor and large cargo doors in the left side of the fuselage, so that it could handle cargo, paratroops and glider towing. It was in that role that it made its name in the fighting of the Second World War, and it flew on long afterward with military as well as civil operators all over the world.
The real subject has a span of just under twenty-nine meters, so the model comes out at roughly forty centimeters in span and twenty-seven centimeters in length. For a twin-engine machine in this scale that is a fair size and has to be taken into account when looking for room in a display case. At the same time the large wing and fuselage surfaces give room to work with shades and with wear.
Before gluing, remove the surplus material and the marks of manufacture from the parts, sand the mating surfaces and dry-fit the fuselage and the wing together. The black and white stripes around the fuselage and wings are typical of machines from the invasion of Normandy: spray them only after the base color, cover the edges with masking tape in advance and only then spray. The flat surfaces of the fuselage forgive little, so it pays to sand the surface with fine paper before painting.
The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue, filler and masking material are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
