Dassault Mirage F1B, the two-seat machines in 1:72

The second part of the Xtradecal decal series devoted to the French Mirage F1 fighter, specifically to its two-seat F1B form. The sheet in 1:72 scale completes a model that has already been built and painted.

The Mirage F1 and its two-seat version

The Mirage F1 gave up the delta wing of the earlier French fighters and received a conventional swept wing with tail surfaces, which improved both its takeoff qualities and its behavior at low speeds. It was powered by a SNECMA Atar 9K-50 engine and the machine became one of the most successful French export types. The F1B form is the two-seat training variant with a lengthened forward fuselage and seats in tandem; it kept its combat capability, so it was also used for operational training.

Application in practice

• Modern machines tend to carry a lot of small lettering, so work from the large markings to the small ones.
• A gloss base is a necessity on bold camouflage.
• Transfer small designs on the tip of a damp brush.
• Use a setting solution over panel seams.
• Choose a matte or satin final varnish according to the subject.
