This is not an aircraft model but an add-on set of turned metal parts for Mosquito kits in 1:72 scale. According to the name it holds barrels for the Browning machine guns of 7.7 mm caliber, muzzles for the Hispano cannon of 20 mm caliber and a Pitot tube. The plastic parts from the box are cut off and replaced with the metal ones, and the result is sharper and more durable than anything that can be molded.
The Mosquito NF Mk.II was the night fighter variant of the twin-engined aircraft with its wooden structure, and the FB Mk.VI was a fighter-bomber for attacks on ground and naval targets. Both versions carried a mixed armament: 7.7 mm machine guns in the nose and 20 mm cannon in the lower fuselage. It is precisely this group of barrels that is most on view on a finished model.
The main reason for metal is the bore: a turned barrel has its muzzle genuinely drilled, whereas with a plastic one you would have to drill it laboriously and the drill tends to wander. Cut the plastic part off with a saw, drill the hole in the nose or in the fairing to the diameter of the pin and glue the barrel in with super glue; if the fit is loose, reach for slow-setting epoxy, which gives you time for alignment. Before painting, degrease the metal with alcohol and use a primer meant for metal. On machine gun barrels, oxidizing or bluing looks better than matte black paint.
This is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
