Injection-molded plastic kit of the German military glider DFS-230A in 1:72 scale by the Czech manufacturer RS Models, in an edition with a decal scheme tied to the fighting for Breslau in 1945. This boxing differs from the standard DFS-230A edition mainly in the period markings on offer; the subject is the same unpowered assault and cargo glider.

The real subject

The DFS 230 was a German transport glider with no engine of its own – a tow plane hauled it to its destination, and after release it glided silently to a landing right in the area of operations. In the closing stages of the Second World War it was used, among other things, to resupply the encircled fortress of Breslau (present-day Wroclaw), where gliders carried cargo and personnel across the tightly drawn front line. It is precisely to these late-war operations that this boxing's markings refer.

Building and painting tips

As with short-run kits, first clean up the parts carefully and dry-fit them. Glue with plastic cement, and use cyanoacrylate glue for the fine parts; watch out for the fragile fabric-covered tubular fuselage structure. Paint the interior and seats before closing up the fuselage. Spray the colors with an airbrush over a primer, and pay attention to placing the Breslau 1945 markings exactly as shown in the instructions so the edition stands out; a matte topcoat at the end will bring out the fabric-covered surface.
