1:72 F-14 A early version - nose tip and angle of attack probe is a set of turned metal parts that replaces the small projecting items on the nose of a model in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set contains turned metal parts for the nose section of a model of the F-14 A fighter in its early version, 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory fitted to a finished plastic fuselage. The base kit has to be obtained separately.
The nose tip and the angle of attack probe are the most exposed places on a model. At this scale a plastic part is either needlessly blunt, because a thinner one could not be taken out of the mold, or so slender that it breaks the first time the model is lifted off its base. Turned metal holds an accurate cone, is concentric with the axis of the fuselage and survives ordinary handling. With a circular section, moreover, any misalignment shows, and a glued plastic part often fails to hold it.
Cut the plastic originals off with a sharp scalpel and level the surface with a file, so that the metal pin seats square. Drill the hole with a micro drill to the exact diameter of the pin; the part then holds even without glue and can be tried dry. Glue with super glue applied with a pin, as excess is hard to remove. Before painting, degrease the metal with spirit and use a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint will flake off at a touch. Leave the fitting until painting and the decals are finished. The set goes well with photo-etched parts, typically with protruding sensors and flaps.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
