HS.125 Dominie T1 RAF 1:72 (Kovozavody Prostejov)

A short-run injection-molded plastic model of the Hawker Siddeley HS.125 Dominie T1 in 1:72 scale from Czech brand Kovozavody Prostejov. The model is cast from a new tooling and supplemented with fine 3D-designed and 3D-printed parts. This RAF edition focuses on standard service markings and color schemes of aircraft in Royal Air Force colors, as flown throughout their long career as a navigator trainer.

The real subject

The Dominie T.1 was the military variant of the successful British jet business aircraft HS.125. The RAF introduced it as the first jet aircraft developed specifically for training navigators; it replaced earlier piston-engine and early-jet training types. The aircraft was powered by a pair of Viper turbojet engines and was designed to seat instructors and trainee navigators together with their training equipment in the cabin. It remained in service with RAF training units for more than four decades before being retired.

Building and painting tips

Short-run kits require a more careful approach — clean the parts of flash and sprue gates first, dry-fit them, and then fill and sand the seams after gluing. Glue the plastic with thin liquid cement, and the small 3D-printed (resin) details with cyanoacrylate (super glue). Apply a primer and spray the colors with an airbrush in thin coats; the service gray and metallic-finish surfaces of the Dominie reward fine panel shading and highlighting details with a wash.
