A plastic kit of the Soviet Lavochkin La-5 fighter in its early version, 1:72 scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Lavochkin La-5 was a Soviet fighter of the Second World War with largely wooden construction and an air-cooled radial engine. It came about by reworking the older LaGG-3, which the new engine helped considerably, and it became one of the main Soviet fighters of the second half of the war. The early machines still kept the high fuselage decking behind the cockpit; the later versions cut it down for a better view to the rear, so the silhouettes of an early and a late machine can be told apart at a glance.
An injection-molded plastic model of the early La-5 version in 1:72 scale. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the extent of the parts, the decals and any further equipment are given in the instructions and in the description on the packaging.
Finish and paint the cockpit interior before you close the fuselage halves, because you will not get inside afterward. Mask the canopy glazing with tape before spraying, not once the paint has dried. The surface of an aircraft with wooden construction is smooth, so it pays to smooth the joints and seams more carefully than on all-metal types. Always check the color scheme against the instructions; apply the decals over gloss varnish and use a softener on the uneven places.
The model will please anyone interested in Soviet aviation and builders of fighters in the small scale. The early version is also suitable for someone who already has a later La-5 in the collection and wants to show the difference between the two fuselage forms. Paints, glue and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
