The P-51D Mustang was an American fighter of the Second World War which, thanks to its great range, escorted bombers all the way to the target. It was powered by the Merlin V12 engine and its teardrop canopy gave the pilot a view in every direction. That is precisely why the cockpit is always on show on a model and why working it out pays off. The designation for the late form refers to machines from the end of production.
The sheet carries color 3D decals with relief of their own for the surfaces of the cockpit, that is for the instrument panel, the side panels and the cockpit walls. The dials, the levers and the labels stand above the surface, so in 1:32 scale they keep their depth even seen close up, when an open cockpit is practically fully exposed.
The elements are printed on a backing decal paper and have no adhesive layer of their own. A decal softener does not belong here. Paint the cockpit with a base color, let it harden completely, clear the surface of dust and grease and go over it with a gloss coat, on which the decal holds. Sand any raised instruments on the kit part down flat. Cut the elements from the sheet, hold them in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds, slide them off the paper into place, seat them fully and press them down with a cotton swab.
The set is meant for modelers who build the Mustang in the large 1:32 scale and want a well worked-out cockpit without the labor of painting tiny instruments. In a large scale the difference from the flat decal in the kit is most clearly visible. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
