A resin cockpit for the reconnaissance version of the MiG-21 in 1:72 scale. It replaces both the cockpit tub and the seat from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The reconnaissance variant differed from its fighter sisters mainly in what it carried under the fuselage: an interchangeable pod with cameras, or with equipment for night photography or for gathering electronic intelligence. It served for many years in Czechoslovak colors and was among the most photographed machines of the Czechoslovak Air Force.
Three routes of differing extent lead to the same cockpit, and it is worth knowing how they differ. A printed instrument panel changes only the front face. A decal set adds color to the panel and the side consoles, but the shape stays as the mold pressed it. This set alone changes the geometry: it brings the whole tub, the side panels, the levers and the ejection seat in a form that injection-molded plastic cannot achieve in this scale.
That is also where the difference in extent lies. You are not buying a print here but volume.
If you are building the model with the canopy closed and no panels open, the viewer will see a fraction of the tub. In that case it is more sensible to choose a surface set and put the effort into the wheels or the nozzle instead. On a model with the canopy slid back, or in a display case that can be looked into from above, the difference pays off at once.
Before gluing it in, the original tub has to be cut out and the fit tried dry, because once the fuselage is glued nothing can be moved.
So before buying, answer a single question: will the canopy be open or closed? Everything else follows from it.
