An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet Polikarpov UTI-4 trainer from the maker Amodel. It is a short-run model with fine detail that more experienced modelers will appreciate; the package contains clear parts for the canopy and a decal sheet. The finished model is small but striking thanks to the characteristic barrel-shaped fuselage.
The Polikarpov UTI-4 was the two-seat training version of the famous Soviet Polikarpov I-16 fighter. It served to prepare pilots for the step up to the demanding I-16 and retained most of its flying characteristics, with the instructor seated in the rear cockpit. Series production began in 1938 and a large number of machines were built.
With a short-run kit, clean the parts up first and dry-fit them. Glue with liquid cement for plastic and sand the joints down. Soviet trainers often carried striking colored markings; apply the decals over a gloss coat and seal them with a matte coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
