1:72 T-34/76 (1940) with F-34 gun

T-34/76 (1940) with the F-34 gun 1:72 (UM)

This kit from the Ukrainian maker UM captures the early Soviet T-34/76 medium tank armed with the 76.2 mm F-34 gun in 1:72 scale. It is an injection-molded plastic model with photo-etched parts added; it is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

At the start of the Second World War the T-34 brought together sloped armor, wide tracks and a reliable diesel engine. The early configuration had a cast or welded turret and a shorter hull; step by step the main armament settled on the more powerful 76.2 mm F-34 gun, which replaced the earlier shorter gun and improved penetrating power. The model captures the tank in exactly this early form.

Building and painting tips

Assemble and clean up the running gear before you close the hull. Use liquid modeling cement on the plastic and glue the fine photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. You will bring the detail to life with a dark wash in the recesses and dust and mud pigments on the running gear.
