A set of replacement tracks for models of the T-34/76 medium tank in the 1942 production build, in 1:72 scale. It replaces the tracks supplied in the kit and deals with their usual weakness: a simplified link relief and side edges with little definition. The set is part of a complete range of tracks from the same manufacturer for Soviet and Allied equipment. The package holds the tracks only: the model, fasteners and paints are not part of it.
On a tank model the track is one of the few areas visible from every angle on the finished piece, and at the same time it carries the most weathering. In 1:72 scale, though, the detail on the tracks from a kit is often lost: vinyl tracks tend to have the link shape only suggested and they hold paint badly. A replacement track with a readable relief therefore changes the look of a model more than so small a part would suggest. The model 1942 designation in the name says which production build of the T-34/76 the track matches, and with this type that matters, because the individual builds differed in their running gear as well.
Wash the tracks in warm soapy water before painting and let them dry thoroughly. Always try them dry on the finished running gear and only then fix them, so that the sag between the return rollers sits right. On Soviet equipment in particular the sag tends to be pronounced, and it is one of the features by which a well-built model is recognized. Start the painting with a dark base, add a shade of rust and finally go over the contact surfaces only with a graphite pencil or a metallic pigment: metal shines where it rubs against the road and the wheels. Add earth and dust with pigments last, and not before the base coat has been sealed.
This is not a tank kit but an add-on set. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
