A large injection-molded plastic kit of an ancient warship in 1:72 scale from Zvezda. It represents the richly decorated trireme of a Roman emperor with ornamental towers at the bow and the stern. Thanks to its large part count the assembled model is a striking centerpiece for a display case.
The trireme (trieres in Greek, triremis in Latin) was the main type of ancient oared warship, with three banks of oars one above the other. It was driven by a numerous crew of rowers, and its main offensive weapon was the bronze-sheathed ram at the bow, with which the ship struck the sides of enemy vessels. The imperial ship was also marked out by its showy decoration.
This is a kit with a large part count, so work in subassemblies and take your time. Glue the hull with thin plastic cement; the wood and the planking come out well with glazes and a dry brush. The oars and the rigging call for careful work, and the decorated features come into their own once painted and given metallic shades.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
