A copper metallic shade from a modeling acrylic range, thinned with water and sprayed with a gun.
Responsibility details are not available.
Copper appears on models in smaller areas, and it is all the more striking for that. Piping and fittings on steam engines, kettles and vessels in interiors, decorative fittings on historic vehicles, the bases of cartridge cases, cooling coils in workshops and the insides of reflectors: everywhere the warm reddish metal draws the eye out of the gray around it. Weathered copper also turns over time into a greenish patina, so the same shade will serve for a roof covering or a monument in a scene as well, with only a thin greenish veil laid over it. Nor is it a shade reserved for a single era; you will meet it on a ship's boiler as well as on a modern switchboard.
Metallic shades carry fine metal particles in their binder, and these sink to the bottom faster than ordinary pigment. So shake the bottle thoroughly and for a long while, not with a brief rattle, otherwise almost colorless binder will come out of the nozzle first and only then the metal.
Metal particles settle into every irregularity and pick each one out. The surface under the spray should therefore be smooth and preferably glossy; on a rough base a matte surface without sparkle is what you get. The paint is thinned with water, or with the thinner from the same range, and is laid on with an airbrush, as the manufacturer specifies for this range.
Do not spray a finished metal with a flat coat, as you would lose exactly what you chose the shade for. Create the shadows instead with a dark wash into the recesses. And when the sheen really has to be knocked back, a semi-gloss coat laid on in a single thin mist will do the job.
